Colin’s done a lot of soul searching, and made some pretty life changing decisions over the last few years, and through it all, we the fans, have always lent him our support. And in the past he appears to have welcomed, and been humbled by our presence, if not in person, certainly in spirit. But now I am wondering if our support, and indeed ‘us’ really matter to him any more?
I know he’s entitled to his ‘own’, and ‘private’ life, however, he is also a movie star and without his fans, surely he would not be where he is now. Talent has a lot to do with it, and thankfully he’s got oodles of that, but so too is the bankable face, and Irish charm that without a doubt helped enormously in thrusting him into the ‘major’ Hollywood actor league as opposed to just any other actor league. It’s brought him huge success, huge wads of money, huge excesses, huge failure, huge disappointment, and huge decisions about his life. All of which, he’s handled with or without the knowledge of our continued support. But now, Colin seems to be turning another corner in his life, and one that I’m not so sure involves us?!
I for one, as a fan, did feel ever so slightly let down by the fact he didn’t even want to share his bouncing bundle of joy with his fans… for over two weeks or more! I may be wrong in feeling this, but I felt it was such a deliberate act of outing the fans, and the final 'official' confirmation was nothing short of a very limp affair. It was no secret (eventually!) that his girlfriend was expecting, so why all the cloak and dagger shit?
I’m not sure I like this ‘new older and wiser’, ‘serious and quiet’, ‘look but don’t touch’, ‘speak only if I permit it’ and ‘I’ll only answer the questions that are safe’, persona… where’s the fun gone, the laughter, the free spirited tangible lovable soul we used to know? We all get older; learn from our mistakes, gain more responsibility, and hopefully progress as a person, but that doesn’t mean we have to stop being the person we really are?!
I always thought of Colin Farrell as being a real people person, one who wore his heart on his sleeve and was not ashamed to be who he was… flaws in all. Maybe he still is, but just doesn’t want to share himself with the public anymore, which is such a shame as those are the people who enabled him to be a successful actor.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m still a fan… I run this blog don’t I? But I also can’t help but feel as if we are entering into uncharted waters with Mr. Farrell these days, and I’m not so sure he really wants us along for the next chapter of his life‘s journey… where ever that may be heading?!
I think he's trying to reach some kind of Johnny Depp status regarding public image. Great actor, adored, nice guy, who likes his fans but on his terms.

ReplyDeleteI know that you were referring more to the way that people treat his GF's (I just had to get that previous bit off my chest), but that is what is going to happen when you are a star who is viewed as a stud. People get jealous, and will say stuff that hurts about your chosen partner. Anyone that hooks up with a star has to put up with that. Even Deborah Lee-Furness does and she is one of the more liked out of the celebrity wives.
Didn't a fan recently scare the hell out of him by getting into his car during filming in London? Lets just hope he is able to distinguish between two different types of fans- those who are obsessed and nuts and those who just see him as there favourite actor. Hopfully he appreciates the latter and understands the majority of us are genuine people. I think he is just protecting his son, although I do not know what difference this would make if we had known sooner or later. To be honest I think alot of Colin Farrell but one thing still bothers me.Why was it all over the internet that he had split from Emma forest in feb. when he had clearly conceived a baby with Alicja? I hate to think of him as a cheat, maybe I am just deluded. Anyway he will always be one of my favourite actors.

ReplyDeleteMaybe this is the person he really is. We don't know him. I don't think he owes us any details about his personal life, including children. I can't imagine what it's like to have to negotiate a public image 24/7, to not be able to walk down the street without someone snapping pictures or bothering you, being constantly ripped to shreds on all accounts (and no I don't mean by the people on this blog, I mean the media). Yes, of course there are the benefits that come with all that - He never has to worry about money, can have anything he wants, is far more fulfilled than most of us in our crappy lives with our crappy 9 to 5 jobs. One thing I've always admired about him, is I think he knows all this. I think he knows he's fortunate and I don't imagine he takes it for granted like maybe he did in his early 20's. The whole idea of "celebrity" versus us mere mortals is just plain wrong. That's the problem. The star system. Movie stars, ball players, rock stars... we should never have elevated them to God status in the first place. Colin Farrell is brilliantly talented (in my opinion), but his life should be no more valuable than the guy's who laid the bricks on the house he lives in. I do think he knows this. And I think that's something to appreciate him for.

Would you watch an old sex tape of the father of your relative's new baby which he tried to bury ages ago? This seems so many ways wrong to me. Or is the polish press just making up stuff to make him look bad? If her family is so "traditional" I wonder how they feel about his gay brother? I'm shocked by this latest story. They even printed stills from the thing. Really explicit stills. Wow. No wonder Colin is trying for more privacy. IMHO he's been exploited by too many people to care about treating fans, the press or anyone else fairly. ReplyDeleteI don't think he "owes" us anything on his personal life. What every actor that wants to keep having a career owes their fans is good performances in their chosen medium. Of course, since I am a fan, I like to hear the latest on what's going on with him, where he's spotted, etc. It's a guilty pleasure that I indulge when time permits.
I think it's somehat strange that there wasn't a birth announcement closer to the actual birth, but there could be so many reasons for that.
They could be head over heels in love and wanted some time alone bonding their family before the whole world found out. They might be living apart and done with each other but not agreeing on what the announcement or name should be. The possibilities really are almost endless.
One thing I did think could possibly have something to do with the delay in announcing is testing for Angelman Syndrome. With one child that already has it, I would think that would be of major concern.
But again, this is pure speculation and we'll probably never know.
I just hope that they are all happy with whatever arrangement works for them and that Jimmy and his new brother will have a chance to have a real relationship.
Virgo I agree. His only obligation as an actor is to act well in good movies and that is more for himself than for fans. I don't think actors are thinking about their fans as much as they're thinking about the work they do. Fans want to think they're more important to the actor than they are. Colin does good work and I hope he gets to feel good about that even when fans and the press rip him to shreds. The choices he's made in his private life have left him open to all kinds of speculation and criticism and I've agreed with a lot of that. But I don't think he owes fans anything more than his performances in movies we like to see. But he does seem to rub up against the wrong women. NN and ABC to me are the worst of the lot.

ReplyDeleteI am so sorry for him. he is trying to cope with a unplanned pregnancy, trying to be a decent person and treating the girl fairly , although he didn't have to because of the circunstances, and some jealous cousin shocks the family with the tape and worst, a tabloid prints explicit stills of it to anyone in her country to see. And the news have spread to other tabloids there. We are his fans and although we may complain about his doings we want him nothing but the best. We would never would want him bullied like that.
Must be heartbreaking and I wonder how hurt colin must be now. And to top it, now brit tabloids have picked up the story. I wonder if it comes from ef friends. She is a revengefull b#### and certainly knows where to hit.

He is a good actor and seems to be a really decent guy. It's tragic this stupid tape haunts him still.

Remember that she is coming out with a book soon, not to mention a movie, which is all about her relationship with Colin (and a few others as well). Also, she did want a family, and justifies her self-worth by the people she associates with.
To make what I am saying clearer:
1) She justifies her existence by the people she is seen to be with. Losing Colin meant she lost her relevance.
2) Colin has a new family with ABC. Emma did want a family, even though she knew she could not have children herself. She seemed very attached to Jimmy. Losing Colin meant she lost that chance at having a family.
3) She has a book and a movie coming out, which are pretty much about her relationship with Colin.
If she did release this sex tape to Alicja's family, she wins on these levels:
1) She hurts his new family (which she has shown she is capable of in the past - just read some of her stuff).
2) She wins sympathy when her book and movie come out.
My own personal experience says never, NEVER, underestimate what a bipolar woman will do when she is pi**ed off.

It hasn't been talked about for a long time so if it was sent it might have been shocking. And frankly it's not very flattering. He looks ok but for a sex tape, it's pretty lame. Did anyone see the Shakespere actors mimic it? Hysterical. I don't think a little thing like a sex tape would've stopped ABC's diabolical plan for a fame grab but she might not have known and if she did she probably didn't think it would be sent to anyone she knows.

Either they're making this shi!t up or ABC's family is talking to the Polish tabloids every other day -- old fashion parents, pressuring him to marry, CF feuding with them, not allowed to be at the birth, etc etc. Are they really pouring their hearts and their secrets out like that to the tabloids? I doubt it. IMO, I think these are all tabloid stories. How would they know ABC's family was sent a tape? Did her family call up the tabloids and tell them? I just don't think so.
